I’m a Ravens fan, and I probably hate on the Redskins more than I should. But I’m going to go on record and say that, at least at first glance, the Redskins’ new “anniversary” unis are not just some of the best throwbacks I’ve ever seen, but some of the best NFL uniforms that I’ve ever seen. The look is a dramatic nod to a long-gone era of football, similar to the Browns’ regular unis, but the colors and the leather-inspired helmets just make them seem cooler and more inspired than throwbacks that we’ve seen in the past.
I’d love to see the franchise go to a look like this on a permanent basis; not having that cartoon American Indian on the helmet all the time could effectively give the franchise a more politically correct and inoffensive image without sacrificing any of the tradition and brand value that comes with the “Redskins” name. If anything, it could actually ENHANCE the franchise’s ties to its own proud history.
Seems like a win-win to me, which means it will probably never happen. But its a nice thought nonetheless.
